Uses of Lisinopril-HCTZ (Zestoretic, Prinzide)
Lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide is the generic form of the brand-name medications Zestoretic and Prinzide. It is a combination pill made of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that helps treat high blood pressure.
Lisinopril helps relax blood vessels so that blood flows more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (“water pill”) that helps the kidneys get rid of excess water and salt. Typically, you take it once daily in the morning, with or without food. Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, dry cough, dry mouth, dehydration, and increased sunlight sensitivity. Alcohol can make these side effects worse. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, as it can harm the fetus. Lastly, make sure to inform your doctor of all other medications (including over-the-counter drugs and supplements) you are taking in order to prevent drug interactions.
